Fixing the 'Facebook Recommender System' :

 How NOT to get the dirty things in your Facebook Feed

All the Facebook Users might be facing this issue of unexpected popping of the immodest videos in our feeds. Lately I was also disturbed by this technical biased system of Facebook. So here is what I think people may need to know about:

IDEALLY HOW SHOULD A RECOMMENDATION SYSTEM WORK??

The software recommender systems use a special type of knowledge to recommend the content to users. This knowledge is typically generated from the user DATA. And that's the reason why user data is so important and is called currency of this age. Leaving the technical things aside, smart algorithms are used to deduce the knowledge from your data which is then used to recommend you the stuff based on the your patterns or traces (whether talking about the similar items generated from your shopping cart on Amazon OR the Ads you see OR even the recommended videos that you get on the Facebook!). That's enough for the Data Science part. 

HOW PREDICTIONS WORK IN FACEBOOK??

In short the answer is "I don't know" . FB maintains a record of your watch history (and you can check it as well). Speaking from the data science perspective, It should recommend the videos on basis of our search/watch history. And i observed that it works similarly for the videos that appear just next to the video you are watching at any point of time. BUT SOMETHING IS DIFFERENT FOR THE FB WATCH. Lately i saw some filthy and weird videos in my FB Watch section. I doubted i might have played some videos of this kind so as a remedy i erased my entire watch history. Then i deliberately played a lot of videos of my choice so as to feed a new watch history. Thereafter I kept waiting for the new recommendations. Unfortunately the same filth titled memes and all kept displaying. I reached a conclusion that it is a biased /pre-motivated thing that serves some special interests. 

SOLUTION: HOW CAN WE SAVE OURSELVES??Here are some activities that may prove to be useful control measures: 

1. 🛑 STOP the Autoplay in FB at the earliest (even on wifi).
2. Only play videos of your choice (taste). Remember your immodesty will reflect even in recommendation systems.
3. Don't even open the WATCH tab (it doesn't behave normally). Permanently REMOVE it from your FB app's top tabs (long press and hold).
4. Whenever you feel that you have started getting any kind of filthy stuff, Login from a computer. Go To settings>activity log>others>video watch history ..CLEAR ALL
5. Use mbasic.facebook.com . It should suffice for your needs [[updated]]
6. There is a close ❌ button on the upper right corner of the recommended videos. click it for the videos you don't want to watch. it saves it as your preference. 

PS: Keep a vigilant eye on kids as well. They might land in trouble while surfing the videos.
